For about $70 per month, you can subscribe to a tooth whitening service. In exchange for your monthly contribution, the vendor sends you a new bleaching kit every month. Since tooth whitening is temporary, you should know that you will need to pay the subscription service every month in perpetuity, unless your loved one plans to avoid eating and drinking permanently after whitening their teeth. Consider the overall cost before going down that rabbit hole. If you pay for someone to belong to such a club, you’ll have invested $840 in their gift in just one year! So, subscribing to such a service is pricier than an in-office treatment. There are a few different methods for whitening teeth in the office. We can whiten them from the outside-in or the inside-out. External whitening is also known as “laser” or “power” whitening. We will put a rubber seal around your loved one’s teeth to protect their gums. Then, the whitening gel is painted onto teeth and a special, bright light is pointed at them. This light speeds up the whitening process. The procedure takes one to two hours.
On the other hand, internal whitening is for teeth that have had root canal treatment. The gums are isolated from the teeth and an opening is made from the back side of the tooth. A strong whitening solution is placed on a cotton pellet and then the opening is temporarily sealed. This is left for about a week and then the color is checked. The tooth will usually take two or three visits to whiten in this manner.
