Christmas & Dental Health

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and celebrations. It’s also a great opportunity to enjoy delicious food and sweets with your loved ones. While this can be fun, it’s important to remember that the holidays are also the busiest time of year for dentists. Sugar is bad for your teeth! While you’re enjoying sweet treats this Christmas season, make sure you brush and floss afterwards. This will help prevent tooth decay which can lead to serious issues down the road such as gum disease or even losing your teeth entirely!

Christmas is not only a busy time for shopping, family celebrations and enjoying the festive season, but it is also the busiest time of year for dentists.

Christmas is not only a busy time for shopping, family celebrations and enjoying the festive season, but it is also the busiest time of year for dentists. As we all know, there is nothing worse than having toothache during Christmas. If you have been putting off going to see your dentist because of the holidays, then now may be the best time to book in an appointment. Dentists recommend that you see them at least every 6 months so if you haven’t gone in since April then it’s probably about time to get yourself booked in!

Tooth decay starts from day 1 when you first start brushing your teeth so please make sure that you brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss at least once per day as well.

Sugar is bad for your teeth!

If you want to keep your teeth healthy this holiday season, here are a few tips:

  • Avoid Sugary Treats
They may be delicious, but they’re also bad for your teeth! If you do eat something sweet (like candy), try to brush your teeth right away. This will help prevent tooth decay and cavities from forming.
  • Avoid Sugary Drinks

Soda or fruit juice, which contain large amounts of sugar that can damage the enamel on your teeth over time and make it easier for bacteria to form plaque that leads to cavities and gum disease!!!

Brush and floss after Consuming Sugary Treats

There’s no denying that eating and drinking lots of sugar over the holidays is a good time. But after you’ve had your fill, make sure to brush and floss regularly to keep your teeth healthy and strong. Brushing your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush will remove plaque from the surfaces of your teeth and prevent cavities. Flossing daily helps remove food particles from between teeth where brushing alone can’t reach. If you’re unable to brush immediately after consuming sugary treats, rinse your mouth with water to minimize how much bacteria gets stuck in there—and avoid those painful cavities!

Brush Twice a Day

Brushing your teeth is the first step to good oral health. This should be done at least twice a day and for two to three minutes each time. Use a soft toothbrush and make small circular motions on every surface of the mouth, including the cheeks, tongue, gum line and inner surface of the lips.

Visit the Dentist!

It’s important to visit the dentist regularly and make sure you are keeping up with your dental health. If you are due for a checkup, book an appointment early so that it doesn’t slip through the cracks. Also remember that if there is an emergency, visit your dentist immediately!

Practice Good Dental Habits

If you’re going to be spending the holidays with your family and friends, you should make sure you practice good dental habits.

  • Brush your teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night before bed. If possible, brush after eating meals.
  • Floss between teeth daily using an appropriate amount of floss material (at least 18 inches). If you have difficulty flossing without assistance, try waxed dental floss or dental tape that is easier to use for people with limited dexterity or strength in their hands or fingers. Regularly rinse with water after brushing to remove food particles from between teeth as well as from along the gum line where plaque can collect unseen by brushing alone.

We hope you found our tips helpful to prevent tooth decay this holiday season! Remember that it’s not just about keeping your teeth clean, but also about taking care of them every day and visiting the dentist for regular checkups.
